No Kings Rally

More than 1,000 people gathered at Vernon Worthen Park in St. George for a “No Kings” rally protesting President Trump and his administration. Despite temperatures over 100 degrees, attendees voiced concerns over immigration policy, due process, and the use of federal power. Organized by the Washington County Democratic Party of Utah, the event featured speakers, chants of “This is what democracy looks like,” and visible support for immigrants. Counter-protesters were present but in smaller numbers.

Jorge Luis Pineda, party spokesperson, criticized ICE and called for bipartisan reform, stating, “Unjust laws do not need to be obeyed.” Police maintained order, escorting one attendee with a visible firearm off the premises without incident.

In Cedar City, around 250 people held a parallel rally downtown. Local organizer Riley Cooper launched the event to give residents a way to participate closer to home. Newly elected Utah Democratic Party vice chair Susan Merrill praised the turnout and diversity of the crowd. Her husband, Steve Merrill, tied the protest to the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, calling it symbolic of resisting tyranny.

Both rallies were peaceful, with some passing motorists showing support, others dissent. Officers in both cities reported no major incidents.
